2025 river herring counting season is closed. Please check back for 2026 information in the spring.

 

BARNSTABLE –

Herring Runs: Centerville River, Marstons Mills River, and Red Lily Pond

When/Where: The count coordinators will contact volunteers directly to arrange for training.

BREWSTER –

Herring Runs: Stony Brook

When: 2026 dates will be posted in early spring.

Where: Lower Mill Pond. Park at 830 Stony Brook Road, Brewster, MA, 02631, across from the Stony Brook Mill.

DENNIS

Herring Runs: Bound Brook and Scargo Lake

When: 2026 dates will be posted in early spring.

Where: Meet at the parking lot for Scargo Lake, best address is 76 Dr. Lords Road S Ext Dennis, group will move to Bound Brook down the road, best address is 750 Airline Road East Dennis.

EASTHAM –

Herring Runs: Herring Pond (aka Herring Brook) and Bridge Pond (aka Herring River)

Herring Run: Herring River

YARMOUTH –

Herring Runs: Herring River, Tom Matthews Pond, Lond Pond, and Baxter Grist Mill

When: 2026 dates will be posted in early spring.

Where: Baxter Grist Mill – 142 MA-28 West Yarmouth, 02673. There is a parking lot across from the Cape Sands Inn. The parking lot is in between the Mill and Town Brook Road. There is about a 250-foot paved walking path that leads from the parking lot to the Mill/counting site.
