2024 Trainings Schedule

The following training sessions have been scheduled for volunteers who will be monitoring the following runs.

BARNSTABLE –

Herring Runs: Centerville River, Marstons Mills, and Red Lily Pond

When/Where:The count coordinators will contact volunteers directly to arrange for training.

BREWSTER –

Herring Runs: Stony Brook

When: Monday, March 25, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Where:Lower Mill Pond. Park at 830 Stony Brook Road, across from the Stony Brook Mill.

DENNIS

Herring Runs: Bound Brook and Scargo Lake

When: March 27, 1:00 pm to 3:00 p.m.

Where: Scargo Lake, parking lot located near 44 Dr Lord’s Road South Dennis, MA 02638. The second part of the training the group will drive to Bound Brook located at 730 Airline Road South Dennis, MA 02660 – volunteers can also put “Sears Cemetery” into the GPS and will be brought to the parking lot.

EASTHAM –

Herring Runs: Herring Pond (aka Herring Brook) and Bridge Pond (aka Herring River)

When: Friday, March 22, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

FALMOUTH –

HARWICH –

Herring Run: Herring River

When:Wednesday, March 13, 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Where:Harwich Community Center, 100 Oak Street, Harwich, MA 02645

Herring Monitoring VolunteersMASHPEE – two trainings

Herring Runs: Mashpee River, Quashnet River at Johns Pond, and Santuit Pond dam

When:
First training: Thursday, March 14th, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Second training: Thursday, March 28th, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Where: Mashpee Town Hall, 16 Great Neck Rd N, Mashpee, MA 02649
Following the orientation, we will walk to the nearby Mashpee River that flows under Route 130. The two other count sites, Quashnet River at Johns Pond and Santuit Pond dam, will require driving from the training. For details or questions, please contact the count coordinator.

Herring VolunteerWELLFLEET

Herring Run: Herring River

When: Thursday, March 28th, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Where: Wellfleet Library, 55 W Main St, Wellfleet, MA 02667
Hosted by Friends of Herring River. The count location is where the upper Herring River crosses under Route 6 through a culvert.

YARMOUTH –

Herring Runs: Herring River, Tom Mathews Pond, Lond Pond, and Baxter Grist Mill

When:
Long Pond – Tuesday, March 26 at 10:00 a.m.
Baxter Grist Mill – Tuesday, March 26 at 11:30 a.m.

Where:
Long Pond – Park at the Yarmouth Housing Authority, 534 Winslow Gray Road, South Yarmouth, MA 02664. We will walk across the road to the counting site.
Baxter Grist Mill – 142 MA-28 West Yarmouth, 02673. There is a parking lot across from the Cape Sands Inn. The parking lot is in between the Mill and Town Brook Road.
