Oyster Pond
Falmouth, MA
Oyster Pond, located within the West Falmouth Harbor estuary, is hydraulically connected to the rest of the system by a small culvert under the Shining Sea Bikeway. The culvert restricts tidal flow, harming the upstream ecosystem and increasing the risk of coastal flooding. A project is underway to replace the culvert with a larger one to improve tidal exchange, enhance habitat for fish and shellfish, and improve storm drainage. The 2024 NOAA funding will support an adaptive management plan, outreach, permitting, and final design, bringing the project closer to implementation.
