A Message of Thanks by Andrew Gottlieb, APCC Executive Director |

With Thanksgiving almost here, this isn’t the week to bang the drum too loudly. We will jump back in with both feet next week. There are many opportunities to capitalize on before the end of the year and even more challenges to rise to for 2023. Among the many things I am personally thankful for is the opportunity to work at APCC. APCC has a great staff and we are supported by a dedicated and generous membership truly interested in protecting and preserving the environment of Cape Cod.
Best wishes to the entire APCC extended family for a happy, healthy, and enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday. Rest up; we all have a lot to do in the coming months. |

Last week, APCC submitted written comments to the state’s Department of Public Utilities in support of the Cape Light Compact’s proposed Cape & Vineyard Electric Offering. The program will offer assistance to low- and moderate-income households in converting to solar photo-voltaic systems to support electrification of their heating systems.

The Fabulously Critical Fork
by Peter Gwillim Kreitler
Several years ago on Earth Talk Today, an environmental television talk show, I hosted Howard Lyman, a cattle rancher turned vegetarian who challenged Oprah Winfrey to give up eating all kinds of beef. This simple question, put to him by former Baywatch actress Alexandra Paul, went something like this: "Howard, what is the most impactful thing an individual can do to help slow down the environmental collapse?" Howard calmly pulled a fork out of his pocket and responded with conviction: "What you put on the end of this will make a big difference."
Howard went on to say everyone on the planet can’t afford solar power, electric vehicles, organic vegetables, or bottled water. However, we might consider… everyone, rich or poor must eat, so the democratic all-inclusive suggestion that can activate change is to watch and carefully select what we eat on a regular basis; and then encourage others to consider adopting new patterns as well.

The Pollinator Pathway Cape Cod is a group of organizations promoting native plants and pollinator-friendly land care practices to create a load of safe oases for our native bees, butterflies and a whole host of other pollinators that are crucial to the health of our ecosystems. Join us! It's easy. There are no fees. You just need to pledge to ADD native plants, SUBTRACT a little lawn, AVOID yard chemicals, especially pesticides, and LEAVE the leaves. And, help us spread the word. If you wish, please get on the map to show your support of pollinators!
