Rivers on Cape Cod have been drastically altered by development and agriculture. Roadways and old mill dams have restricted flow and passage for fish, and cranberry bogs have changed our wetlands into monoculture systems that offer little habitat for wildlife. However, as mills and bogs are abandoned there are great opportunities to restore our rivers.

Join us for a set of walking tours at the Childs and Coonamessett Rivers to see two restoration projects in different phases of implementation. At the Coonamessett River, see what restoration looks like one year post construction and learn about phase 2 plans for work on the remaining bogs and John Parker Road river crossing. At the Childs River, see a project pre-construction and learn about plans for removal of an earthen dam, replacement of the Carriage Shop road culvert and restoration of the river and bogs. See for yourself what these sites like before, during and after construction and learn about ongoing monitoring to track the impact and success of these projects.

These walking tours have been organized as part of the Childs River Restoration project managed by the Falmouth Rod and Gun Club with support from the following partners.

Event is free*, but registration is requested below.
