Cyanobacteria (previously called blue-green algae) are ancient aquatic microorganisms that thrive in warm, calm, nutrient-rich surface waters. Certain cyanobacteria release toxins known as cyanotoxins. Exposure to these toxins through ingestion or direct contact with water has caused illness in anim
