Herring River Restoration Committee
APCC has a long history of involvement in efforts to restore the 1100-acre saltwater marsh system of the Herring River in Wellfleet, which was diked in the early years of the 20th century. In the early 1970's, just a few years after its birth, APCC began collecting data in support of restoration of tidal flow to the marsh. Although early efforts to promote restoration were not successful, recent years have brought much progress in scientific understanding and community support for the restoration.
Currently, the Herring River Restoration Committee has begun to undertake the regulatory processes for the restoration to move forward. APCC has contracted with the Committee to facilitate early stages of this work.
